Calculate my tuition fees

22 March 2019

If you are enrolled in higher education, you will need to pay tuition fees every year. There are 2 types: statutory tuition fees and institutional tuition fees. Please consult the Avans website to see which type applies to you.

Tuition fee levels

Every year, the Netherlands Ministry of Education sets the statutory tuition fee levels for full-time programmes. Avans University of Applied Sciences uses this level to determine the rates for:

  • work-study and part-time study programmes
  • examination fees for external students
  • institutional tuition fees

These rates are valid for the academic year that runs from 1 September up to and including 31 August of the following calendar year.

Joining a study programme during the academic year

If you obtained permission from the Dean of the study programme, you might enrol on a study programme at Avans somewhere during the academic year, for example in February. In this case, you will only need to pay part of the tuition fees.

If you are already studying at Avans and have applied for a second Avans programme for which a higher tuition fee amount is due, then you will only have to pay the difference between the amount due for the first programme and for the second. If tuition fees for the second programme are equal to the first programme or lower, then you will not have to pay any tuition fees for the second programme. Please consult the terms of enrolment for the full details.

If you already have a higher education degree

If you want to enrol on a study programme at Avans University of Applied Sciences, having already earned a higher education degree, then you will need to pay the institutional tuition fee rate. This rate is higher than the statutory tuition fees. Avans University of Applied Sciences determines the amount due on your online mandate in Studielink on the basis of DUO’s records.

There are a number of exceptions. You are eligible to pay statutory tuition fees instead of institutional tuition fees if:

  1. you earned a degree before 1991
  2. you have not earned a degree in the Education or Health Care domain and are now enrolling on a study programme in either of these domains
  3. you enrolled on a second programme while already studying and you have been enrolled on this second programme continuously while graduating from the first programme.
